The Children’s Advocacy Center of Spartanburg provides an array of services to child victims of sexual abuse and their families who live in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties.
Forensic Assessments
Staff experts provide this clinical evaluation for a child suspected of sexual abuse or severe physical abuse. This interview and others which may be necessary is conducted in a child-friendly, safe and nurturing environment that has a one-way mirror that allows other professionals to observe the interview if appropriate.
Medical Examinations
Our on-site pediatrician is a specialist in the area of child sexual abuse and performs the examinations in a sensitive but comprehensive manner. The examination room, decorated in a comforting, non-institutional fashion, has state-of-the-art equipment that helps to identify and preserve key evidence.
Child Abuse Response Team
The Child Abuse Response Team (CART) comprises of all professionals involved in the investigation of each allegation of child abuse. These teams meet weekly at the center in order to collaborate information to put the child’s needs first, gather information more effectively and to eliminate repetitive victim interviews. The team includes: the center’s pediatrician, a representative from Department of Social Services, the forensic interviewer, the counselor, a representative from the Solicitor’s Office, the police or sheriff’s office, a representative from Guardian ad Litem, a representative from SAFE HOMES/Rape Crisis Coalition and the Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Therapy
Trained professionals at the center provide therapy for the child victims of abuse and their families. Therapy may include one-on-one counseling, family counseling, child group counseling, non-offending parent counseling, sibling counseling and parent group counseling.
